Disc less Tax
« on: November 07, 2014, 07:36:15 PM »
The appreciating classic has to pay road rent again.

I have to do this for the privilege of asserting my right to egress in shared areas. Scratching my bonnet something awful, I have to scrape all the pedestrians off down by the theatre car park. Stop wearing sharp things!

Anyway, got me tax thingy. I can pay £156.75 in one hit for 6 months, £285 for 12 months in one hit, £149.63 for six months by direct debit, in one go (!) or £299.25 monthly over 12 months.

I unless I am a fecking idiot (steady) the 12 months works out 1p cheaper than the other options. If I can't find £285 just before Christmas

Or, I could pretend I am Polish and pay feck all.

No idea why I have posted this, maybe someone will find it useful?

Sometimes I think you have to march right in and demand your rights, even if you don’t know what your rights are, or who the person is you’re talking to. Then, on the way out, slam the door.

I'm still getting used to the novelty of driving around with no tax disc.  Feels like the 1980's all over again  :-X

I use a Watneys beer mat. Don't care I don't need it, it's tradition.

My mates transit van seemed to have a beermat on permanent display. Now I now why :)

I'm wondering whether roads without fixed ANPR systems (anyone else noticed a lot more fixed ANPR sites on major routes and junctions?) will be policed more regularly?

I'm anticipating that an FOI request concerning the numbers and location of ANPR sites would be stone-walled  ;D

...but http://bigbrotheriswatching.co.uk/Anpr_Camera_Locations.html seem to be compiling their own list of locations anyway :)

I suppose it's only a matter of time before HMG decides that anyone avoiding ANPR sites because they don't wish to be surveilled is automatically avoiding taxing their car or a terrorist and therfore a suspect.

Shame that there isn't an ANPR system in government and banking sites to detect those avoiding paying other kinds of tax.....

£285 for 12 months in one hit.

£285, Blimey. Are you driving a Sherman tank?

I would prefer a Chieftain, I can drive one of them. If someone starts it for me, buggered if I can remember.

The carbon emitting lump is indeed the Volvo. It is now lowered with new springs all round. Improved the ride quality without bouncing off manhole covers. Snapped a spanner and an Allen key and the constant implied threat of decapitation when using the spring compressor was quite enervating. Also put a cold air induction kit on it, sounds like it is about to announce it is Luke's father when you change gear. Now mulling over an ECU remap to get to the mid 200 bop area, might have to wait though, I either have a small rodent trapped in the OSF or the feckin bearing has gone. Tricky job involving drive shafts, probably one for Cross St. Also been amusing myself replacing the niggly little bulbs that pack up. Centre console has to come out to replace the cigar lighter bulb. Some of the bulbs have been ordered in from California, get me! Happy days.

Anyway, developments on the road rent front. I went for the DD option, it all went well until the end. Evidently DVLA will not accept DD instructions for a joint account.

Bastards, where's my beer mat?

Get someone to give it a push. Once they have got a bit of speed up, slip it into first and hey presto.

Glad to have been of assistance.

If it got a bit of speed up by being pushed you probably shouldn't slow it down by starting it.
