hypocrites..
« on: April 17, 2014, 10:11:09 AM »
The Daily Mirror ran a front page story yesterday about foodbanks and with was a full page picture of a girl crying, and they asked why are so many using food banks, it now comes out the girl is American, the picture was taken about 3 years ago, when she lost one of her pet earthworms called flower. Oh dear, back to the old mail and telegraph, and their lies......  :WTF:

True the picture may not be what it seems  - BUT doesn't it upset you that in 21st century Britain that ANYONE should need a foodbank?

Indeed. Is that whistling sound is the point flying over Kohima's head once again...?!

Criticise the Mirror rightly indeed. But using it as some kind of defence of The Mail is clearly as bizarre as it is irrelevant. Come on fella.

(Ko - 'fifallins' - the 'person' you are arguing with on the Spear Chucker thread is quite obviously a spam-bot btw...)
I do not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it - [attributed to] Voltaire... 'Entia non sunt multiplicanda praeter necessita' - William of Occam.... 'You have a right to feel offended, but just cos you are offended doesn't mean you are right'

And aren't there three in Swindon?

There are at least two, one in St. Aldhems Hall an done at John Moulton Hall.  They have a facebook page.

And no we shouldn't need Foodbanks, we all pay in so that families in need, and in this case desperate need, get help from the state. i.e. US!

The government thinks it's being kind in allowing the voluntary and charitable sector to take over part of it's work.

like the 36 year old woman who is telling her daughter to get pregnant and she will never need to work like she hasn't done all her life, a life on benefits, I bet she goes to food banks...

What did people do before the Trussell Trust started its foodbank operation - which was less than 10 years ago?

I came from a family of 6 kids and my mother always ensured we had food in our ever so hungry tummies

It was easier to get benefits ten years ago, however it was Just as difficult them quickly if you suddenly found yourself unemployed,  this is the gap that foodbanks are supposed to fill - between wage and benefit, or wage and new job wage.  It is not ongoing support, but short term, no more than a few weeks.

Went to the cabinet meeting tonight, hence the hypocrite line.. Mr Dempsey told about the new car park and how it had 1000 empty car spaces.
Mr Perkins told him it was only built for 850 spaces, so how did he get 1000, the two labour councillors and Ms Snelgrove left, so there was nobody there to even debate the finance bill, which if you think about it, the main reason the trio was there was to moan about the 700k being taken out of the welfare budget.
The financial bill, last year, wrote off over 2 and half million pounds of council tax, housing rent and car park fines, so you could ask why cant they get their house in order and not loose that money and spend it on welfare.
But there was nobody from the labour trio left to ask that question.
I did offer a carrier bag but they declined..
