'Bump Off' Bicycle lights
« on: February 24, 2014, 10:50:52 AM »

I've had several recent instances of noticing, when putting the Vileociraptor away in the very early a.m, that one of my two rear lights has not been working.  Initially I put this down to incipient imbecility on my part, (forgetting to switch one of them on), but after following another cyclist t'other morning and seeing both his rear lights go out after hitting a bump I decided to take a closer look.

This is what I found.....

Something to be aware of.

I've now hard-wired this pair of rear lights to four AA batteries which are wired to supply 3v to both lights.

I'm an enthusiastic tinkerer so beating the 'Bumping Off' problem was quite satisfying. I also like this particular style of rear light and the amount of light they produce. I also didn't want to keep purchasing lights until I found a pair which didn't bump off.

Piccies later. :)

Is it me or is it those flashing lights, I just cannot look at them and as a result cannot judge where they are?

As regards me personally I would only support the use of very powerful solid lighting.

It's you Richard.  How do you avoid crashing into police cars, ambulances and pedestrian crossings?

Yes, it was the right thing anyway.
