JayJ, I get mailings direct from Thompson and Morgans. Some rate them highly but I prefer Suttons myself or at least I did when I grew from stuff from seed. In fact they came highly recommended and when I was secretary of our gardening club, the members insisted on Suttons and agreed they were the Bee's knees.  One of my favourites was their Nemesia - Suttons Sparklers, did just that, well named.

For sheer tenacity I rate Parkers bulbs, seeing as how I gave up being Sec. in 1989 and I'm still getting their blessed catalogues through the doors. Gave up trying to stop them donkeys years ago.

Ko, do you still get a good discount on seeds etc. through the Allotments Assocation?

Hmmm.....eveeything on my windowsill is now reaching for the sky, but the only movement in the greenhouse is my Spanish red onions, and they went in 10 days after everything else!

Looking forward to being outside Sunday and Monday )

I've had a few bargains from here, but can't reccomend or otherwise their plants, because I haven't tried them.

http://www.greenfingers.com/?spMailingID=41353280&spUserID=NDg4MDIzODY5NAS2&spJobID=185396580&spReportId=MTg1Mzk2NTgwS0

Spent less than half an hour tackling those brambles yesterday and my hands are now covered in itchy spots. That's it, I'm going in with the strimmer ASAP.

My veg plot is now in total shade from 3 Leylandii that I foolishly spared.
Yesterday I bought a new chain-saw sharpening kit and have taken a few branches off ready for the "big-drop". To complicate matters, an overhead electric cable goes through the trees. Leylandii is useless on an open fire and I shall have several tons of it to dispose of. Oh dear, no veg again this year I fear, although the greenhouse should be functional...........provided a tree doesn't hit it!
What's it all about?

Protect your eyes. I knew a guy who got a nasty injury strimming brambles.

Thanks Spunky, these aren't high, just a %&*^$ nuisance.  Usually end up picking thorns out of my fingers for a week afterwards, very sore typing!  The worse time was  when I was sat in a plastic garden chair, cutting brambles off and making a pile of them behind me, the the chair leg broke and I ended up, chair and all, flat on my back with the brambles for a  pillow.  I had to shout for help that time.  Mr Muggins blanched when he saw the pickle I was in - proabably wondering how the heck he was going to lift me and not hurt his back.

Luckily I wasn't hurt, just couldn't move in case the brambles got me.

Snapped my fork handle today.  Last time I buy gardening tool from Homebase, damn thing only lasted 2 years :(

Luckily I have £34 left on a B&Q gift card and £20 worth of National Garden Gift vouchers, (which I think the garden centre in Cheney Manor accepts), so I'll be nipping out nice and early in the morning to get some decking stain, bamboo poles and a new fork.

Must remember to take some pictures tomorrow 'cos I'm going to do another time-lapse thingy, but this time I'll do it across the whole summer :)

My greenhouse got up to 29 degrees today - at what temperature do the automatic vents usually open? I was briefly tempted to get the blowtorch out to test 'em, but I counselled myself to be patient :)

The only forks that have lasted in our house are the ones that never got used.

Mr Muggins treated me to a very expensive ladies fork, only lasted a couple of years, one of the times broke, he welded it back on for me but it never worked the same after that.

Then I bought on of the Golden Claw things - brilliant!

Mr Muggins is promising to get the bramble roots out for me TODAY and flatten the pile of soil he plonked in the garden two years ago when he made put in the Titanic shed.

We'll see!  ::)

Blimey, he's done it!!!   :hippy:

Oh ye of little faith ! :)

Well, I've blown all but 5 pence of my gift vouchers & card, but at least I have a new fork, some more seeds, a miniature rake, 10 more lengths of bamboo, decking oil, some angle iron, mild steel rod and a 'bag for life*'.

I also bought a crusty loaf and some peas for tonight's pea & ham soup.

* Readers will notice that I didn't go for the 'dunno why, 'cos I already married one' quip, oh Lordy no.  ;D

My, my, you did well with them vouchers.

That fork Mr Muggins repaired, that's what he did the job with, it's bent again, he reckons it would work better with three prongs - I said chuck it,and got out the garden claw.

Well, she ain't gonna confuse you with a miniature rake, respectfully.

I bought my wife 700 french kgs of farmyard manure at the weekend and laid it out on the newly reinstated flowerbeds. She was utterly speechless, could have been gratitude, could have been holding her breath. I reckon in a couple of years it should be pretty decent out there, and maybe a bit more fragrant, to tell you the truth I don't find it that offensive.

Cats appear to be most put out and are probably considering the likelihood of an extremely localised shower of sh*t falling in what they considered their exclusive territory. I have advised them it is like the normal poo patrol, I've just done it back to front this time.

As part of moving the landscapey type stuff out of the back garden I busted a fork and shovel levering out bamboo, I'm a bit miffed but reasoned that I was, strictly speaking, abusing them and I have got a pair of cracking dibbers out of it.

I'm curious about those curvy handled jobbies but there's also a couple of chaps who swear by secondhand gear from boot sales, left to my own devices I'd probably get the shiniest one.

Or tell Time Team I've found a longboat over there, or was it here, maybe it's over there somewhere ....

Mmm, that Time Team trick is an old one, I've often thought that instead of appealing for volunteers, it would be money well spent to take £10/20 single £ coins and planting them them telling people they are there to find.

Trouble is, one of those fellas with one of those machines that find metal, would be all over the place digging hand trowel size divots out of the grass instead of digging propely, which of course would be the object of the game.

I reckon that you'd be better off buying forks and spades at a car boot and the older the better, they used to last longer than they do now.

If you want a pong - strong enough to have the neighbours knocking your door to complain, old mushroom compost, it has a quality that makes the eyes smart.

Won't that manure make the beds a bit 'rich' for growing this year Mart?

wind powered toilets

Am I the only one who finds that funny?

No you are not, practically every one one has had a laugh at it. Also the name of the firm that makes them, or at least what they call the loo.  The name of which defeats me at present.
