I wonder if Eric Pickles really knows what is going on here in Swindon or is it that he is just not interested?

With Modern Conservatism I just cannot relate to these people with their lack of business or worldly experience.  They, just like Rod Bluh, fly in the face of commercial reality and worse than that do not seem to have any form of social conscience unlike the One Nation Conservatives with whom I grew up.

Politics seems to be turned on its head, the Conservatives seem to have lost the ability to manage our financial resources these days whereas in the not so distant past it was the one reason why they were chosen as a government.  Now Cameron believes he should reduce benefits whilst at the same time increasing overseas aid.  Is this bloke real or just a millionaire numpty who
blows around in the wind like a piece of paper?

The question is are Labour or for that matter any other substantive alternative capable of stepping up to the mark and taking this lot on and removing them before they take us into the abyss?

If it was a Labour run council he and the two MPs would be very interested - don't you think  :santa_undecided:

It's fair question. I think the Clarence Street School Building would have been a better location. The Sanford Street Building isn't anything special as far as an old building is concerned - but for many of us 'old boys' it has sentimental value.

Or they could even turn it into a school, which I believe was the building's original purpose.

It was one of the finest schools in the town. Brilliant head teacher (now in his 90s) and superb staff - 'bill' Penfold, 'taffy' Evans, Ike Gradwell to name but three

Is that the same Ike Gradwell that..........................??????
Oi! Listen mush. Old eyes, remember? I’ve been around the block a few times. More than a few. They’ve knocked down the blocks I’ve been around and rebuilt them as bigger blocks. Super blocks. And I’ve been round them as well.  The Doctor (Night Terrors)

It was and his wife was Angela Gradwell a lawyer and writer.

One of the most amazing things about Ike Gradwell was that unless you knew he was a Communist there was nothing about him in terms of demeanour or words which indicated his politics.  He was a fine teacher

Again..

Wasn't Sanford Street School Swindons' first or something?

It's certainly connected with The Mechanics' and Swindons' cultural heritage....

Which means it's probably doomed along with any other cultural heritage of Swindon
