car shop
« on: August 16, 2012, 05:00:32 PM »
I have just had a call from a friend who livs in Scotland, his daughter in recent days bought a car from a car shop\agency here in swindon, when the car, a VW, arrived at thier house,it proved to be a dud, it was fitted with non VW parts and so they (VW) are saying the warranty is now of no value, she paid £8,500 for the two year old car. Jim says the car shop is called 'Signature cars', somewhere here in Swindon, Grampion road, anybody heard of it please?

If the car is not roadworthy T the contract for its purchase would be null and void as it would not be fit for the purpose for which it was purchased.

If this is the case I am sure a mention of Trading Standards will either get the matter rectified or a cancellation of the contract and a full refund made.

Please deal with this on an urgent basis or you could find they disappear.

My Friend has taken steps, to chase them up, and also, which did surprise me, VW are getting involved, as they said it looked bad on them for building cars with non vw parts..
they are Indians, so Jim said, so perhaps they are their way to mars by now......

Hi , I bought a 206 from this lot a year ago , came with a full mot but I did know that it was a cat d (been involved in a minor crash). I was told that it had been fully repaired and the mot confirmed that.
I have just had it tested at the same mot garage a year later ..... it failed with discs and pads ... no problem.
I took it to F1 autocentre who found that the front right drive shaft is fitted in-correctly and dangerously and that the subframe is bent !!
Basically I have been sold a potential death trap and I have been driving my 4 year old daughter around in it !!
I am now waiting for signature to get back to me on how they are planning to resolve it but at the moment they are denying all responsibility as ive had the car a year.
Seriously dodgy outfit !!!!

I've bought and sold bangers all my driving life.  One of the many things I've learned over the years is to always, always, always do an HPI check before buying any second hand vehicle.

Yes, HPI checks do cost a few quid but can save you money, heartache, hassle and potentially your life.
'Forwarned is forarmed' and 'buy cheap, pay twice' as they say.

I'm not defending this lot, but it's likely they're ignorant of the genuine condition and general roadworthiness of teir own stock.  Also likely that they care even less.

I'll lay a small wager that they're paying as little as possible to buy 'traded in' cars from bigger dealers and anything cheap-but-looks-good from auctions.  They won't be wanting to spend large amounts making them 100% and will want to shift stock asap and, to make a sale, will say a lot verbally which they would not agree to putin writing.

The car had been hpi checked as far as I know. It had been through 2 mot's aswell. It wasn't until the f1 auto centre starting looking into a problem with the right hand drive shaft that they then found this issue.
But I totally agree with you. This will be the last time that I buy a "cheap little runaround"

The Whois database has this domain listed as belonging to KMLN Ltd with a different Swindon address and some form of relationship with Autotrader by the looks of it:

KMLM Ltd are registered with Companies House, but at an address in London, I haven't checked but the address may be nothing more than a name plate on a PO box.

A further check shows KMLM as having just one director, someone called Xin Nan Mok

Stop pissing about and get Trading Standards involved.

A college friend of mine used to be Chief Trading Standards Officer for West Sussex and he took these type of incidents very seriously.

As regards MOT's it pays to go somewhere that is fair and objective, but for which you may well pay the full price.  It is a shame that Thamesdown Transport don't do them any more because they were never interested in repairs.

Hi , I bought a 206 from this lot a year ago , came with a full mot but I did know that it was a cat d (been involved in a minor crash). I was told that it had been fully repaired and the mot confirmed that.

Seriously dodgy outfit !!!!

If you can establish that the damage was present when it was sold to you they are still liable and I repeat they sold you a vehicle that was not roadworthy and under contract law not fit for the purpose for which it was sold.

Be careful they could now disappear before any action is taken.
