Opinions wanted on Cricklade Road (Top end)
« on: January 23, 2012, 09:07:00 PM »

I've been offered a flat at the top end of Cricklade Road not too far from the shops and Moonrakers and just wanted some opinions on what it is like round there as I want to live in a fairly quiet area with no trouble or hassle.

Thank you.

Well think of the pro's  you are on one of the main bus routes to Gorsehill and the town centre.
You have a range of shops on Clive Parade. The Moonrakers would be your local and they provide some great entertainment ranging from themed music nights,  discos, live music and psychic fayres. I think they are hosting a Motown night soon.

You are not far from the John Moulton Hall in Penhill which is the hub of the community with lots going on locally.

Then there is the seven fields conservation area - lots of green space and Penhill Orchard.
If you have children you would be central to Seven fields primary and swindon Academy.

As for trouble  - well that can happen in any area.

Hope this helps

Chav has clearly stated the positives (although a clear run into the town centre being a positive is debatable)  :crazy2:

A flat at the top end of Cricklade Road won't be quiet. LOTS of traffic and schoolchildren, together with the permanent litter ballet blowing in the wind on Clive Parade, created by gangs of bored...erm...chavs hanging around at all hours.

But, check it out for yourself. Pay a visit at different times of day and night, see what you think.

The other thing to take into account is that if you are on the housing waiting list and have been offered this property, I would say that you are very lucky and should you turn it down it may be sometime before you are offered an alternative,  if there is one that is.

You need to think long and hard about it and make the decision based on what is best for you.
You will be the one who has to live there, so only you can make that choice.

I wish you luck and do what's right for you - think of the here and now and the long term :-)

I gave up hanging around at all hours!
I do it indoors now instead

If it really is up the top end of Cricklade Road, then if it's past the first entrance to Penhill, it won't be noisy, except for traffic of course, it is a very busy road at all times.

If it's closer to Crossroads, and actually on Cricklade Road then it will be busier, but Rich is right, Headlands has moved and The Clivey will sooner rather than later be on the move too, so no reason other than ordinary chopping places for them to congregate.

There are worse places!

one of the worst in the area is the other end of the shopping plot where the 'new' car park is and also next to the KFC shop, go past there in the afternoon, and see all the rubbish blowing about in the street and the car park, which is cleaned as and when they get round to it.
