Carole - Yes, the Browns did get planning permission but if you knew the full story it was more like the Croft school affair. I know two particular families whose lives have been hell as a result of Redlands' activity.   I don't wish to say anymore as both have been persecuted for their campaign to get justice.

my favourite airplane of all time is the Lockheed Constellation.

You are lucky that we have the only one in Britain actually in Swindon.

Is that in The Science Museum?
So long since I've been in there I can't remember.

The irony of the Redlands situation is that the one detail that could actually save the area from the blight of Swindon sprawl will be ousted by the very people whose area will be sprawled over.
Hardly Heathrow is it?

Yes, it seems similar to the perversity of American Republicanism which sees the top 1% of America's great and good conning a sizable majority of the less well off into resisting the creation of a cheaper and easier to access health system, even though it would benefit them greatly.  Obviously detrimental to the majority of the less well off but hugely beneficial to the wealthiest Americans and their business mates.

'Public Loss, Private Profit' seems to be the catchphrase of a Swindon which continues to be blighted by Bluhligan schemes.

Two councillors from the same party in disagreement over Redlands Airfield!

Tucked into page two of the today  a Cllr is making a point about the other taking electoral advantage out of the airfield. It is not online no link to it.  :fence:

If you could send me a scan or photo of the article I would be eternally grateful.  Failing that, a hint as to which Cllr was passing what comment would be helpful :)

The gist is from memory Councillor Bennett stated that Cllr Heenan was not a councillor in either of the wards and was creating electoral advantage. He also spoke of no consultation with him or the parish council that had been working together on the villages development plan or something like that.

Cllr Heenan popped back with a I make no apologies for  being hard on protecting open space. I do not have the article I quickly scanned through it during the wait for my take away and I do not have a copy of the adver.  Something to do with a core strategy lasting 15 years or some other gobbledygook I can't remember it all now.  :(

Thanks to Lamplighter 5* we have a copy of the article:

I note that Cllr Heenan forcefully and unequivocally states that he will be, and I quote:

Quote from: Cllr Dale Heenan
"introducing tough new rules to protect green open space, playing fields and rural buffers in the October core strategy"[/url]

Given that Cllr Heenan remained expediently silent when his colleagues in the cabinet first misled the residents and children of Stratton, (by promising them that the future of the playing fields had been 'secured' - just before an election), and then remained deaf and dumb when the the full extent of their betrayal became obvious when, after the election, they announced that the playing fields were to be sold to a developer.

Readers will forgive me if I indulge in a moment of vileness and suggest that: Based on this councils appalling record of disposing, and attempting to dispose of, playing fields, allotments, green spaces and other land covenanted to the people of Swindon, I personally think that any statement made by Cllr Heenan which seems to suggest that he has any genuine intention of protecting the aforementioned spaces from his own political aims, and those of his colleagues, should be treated as a politically expedient statement which he and his colleagues will later choose to 'interpret' in an entirely different manner than the way he wishes it to be interpreted now by the readership of the Swindon Advertiser.....

....and especially so since his own Government has very recently, in the last few days in fact, just relaxed the rules governing the sale of, and building upon, school and academy playing fields.

Once Cllr Heenan and his colleagues list any Council 'owned' space as being 'Surplus to requirements', that space is already on its way into the hands of the Bluhligans best friends - property developers.

I read the article but was disappointed there was no photograph of Heenan doing his grinning cat impression.
Cllr. Bennett was obviously and quite rightly upset but as we all know Heenan has always been all talk. Tell me of just one thing this man has delivered? Oh I forgot the Croft School.

Having witnessed Cllr Mike Bawden attempting to eject my husband from a meeting   with tones akin to " Get off my land"... as he bellowed  " Get out of my meeting" - prior to being reminded that as a public servant , it was not his meeting - but in fact  a public meeting  in a public building.... we're now onto the next episode...

" Get off your land... and outta the skies ! " seems to be the gist of it from Cllr Heenan

The conservative Councillor who reminded  Cllr Heenan to " get off his turf." was spot on. ( I think it was Cllr Bennett?)

What a shame that more of his colleagues didnt think to ask Cllr Heenan  to " get off the Croft turf too" when he keenly chaired the planning committee in november giving  SBC approval to SBC to bulldoze the trees on site, dig deep into the spring fed fields and attempt to build on the top.... but hey, glad to hear that Cllr Heenan  isnt going to apologise for being tough in protecting our green spaces.

Own goal? Yep - muga pitch - 1st left at the building site.

I wonder if those that don't appreciate the joys of flight are still rejoicing the imminent demise of a small airfield.

http://www.swindonadvertiser.co.uk/news/9991273.East_Swindon_to_have_most_new_homes_in_local_plan/

EAST Swindon is earmarked in the local plan for more development than any other sector of Swindon, with space allocated for nearly 10,000 new homes and 40 hectares of employment land.

The principle here is that houses are going to be built regardless  of numbers it's still development  :-\
