Something a bit unhealthy about this.

I feel a bit soiled.
Sometimes I think you have to march right in and demand your rights, even if you don’t know what your rights are, or who the person is you’re talking to. Then, on the way out, slam the door.

I just had a thought ! (Oh bloody hell - I hear Mr W saying to himself)  :idiot2:

Seriously- re: political leaflets- I am interested to look at all the 2011 ones from all party's as I would like to see in the climate of cuts and saving money, what the various party's are going to promise us with on their leaflets !

It will make interesting reading as I would like to look at how they intend to achieve what they say they are going to whatever it may be as said /advertised on ones leaflets.

What is left to promise potential voters when there is no money !

Out of interest I wonder if any of the Party's would be brave enough to state that on their political leaflet !
......'We cannot promise you blah, blah , blah as there is no money - but vote for blah blah because...........'

Hmm I shall look forward to having a look !

Without looking too closely at any of them, I bet they are already promising to fill in any shortfall with volunteers.

If they manage this, their subsequent leafelts will tell us how successful they have been in achieving this or that by encouraging those volunteers, whilst completely forgetting that those volutneers did the
"$%^^&* job. (and with less funding and little or no support)

I had a thought as well, it's a positive epidemic.

Why can't they share a leaflet?

Let's say the usual 4 page jobby, first page is gurning hopefuls, I suppose they could be permitted to hold a token of their specific selling point. Labour could hold a printing press, Tory could hold some metal snips and the Libs could hold their coats.

Next couple of pages can be policy, all pretty much the same anyway.

Back page can be where one argues black is white, the other says white is black and another sees only grey.

Sorted, cheques to usual address.

Apart from the obvious "None of the above" what is the suggested alternative?

I think some of these were 2008 and other 2009 as there were no elections last year 2010 except for the General.

Don't the Tory ones make awful reading in rectrospect?

I think some of these were 2008 and other 2009 as there were no elections last year 2010 except for the General.

Don't the Tory ones make awful reading in rectrospect?

You're mistaken Richard.  2010 had local and general elections, 2009 was an election-less year :)

Who is stopping Kohima from putting "anti-labour comments on here"? I think that sort of behaviour on an open forum is to be discouraged.

Kohima, you should name and shame the oppressors, but do not be afraid to have your say. I fully support your right to free speech.

Aaah the good old days.

TWO post offices in south Swindon are facing closure, says an MP.

The Post Office was today scheduled to unveil plans for public consultation on a fresh round of branch closures.

And Anne Snelgrove has claimed that the Lawn branch, in Guildford Avenue, and the Westcott Place branch, in Faringdon Road, are among those whose futures are under threat.

The south Swindon MP is urging everyone likely to be affected by the closures to speak up - or risk losing them.

"These post offices are community assets," said Anne.

"I will be helping local people put solid arguments to the Post Office about why they should stay open.

"I have already met with Post Office Ltd and I have been told the plans are not set in stone at this stage.

"Changes can be made - if the arguments are good enough."

Anyone who wants to contribute to the public consultation has until the middle of January to do so.

Then voting with her cons conc following her, um, them thingies that you, um believe in, oh yeah, pixies, no that's wrong, anyway, she's near the bottom.

Voted to continue the closures

Sometimes I think you have to march right in and demand your rights, even if you don’t know what your rights are, or who the person is you’re talking to. Then, on the way out, slam the door.

No one of course - but unless you have a burning cross on your front lawn, you're a leftie pinko in Kohimas [comic] book  :coolsmiley:

ANYWAY ...

Got your election leaflet through the door Chris. First impression is that... it all sounds very predictable. There's a lot of 'Tories cut this, tories cut that' - as though the cuts had NOTHING to do with the management of the economy of your new found bed-fellows for the past 13 years. That makes me immediately cynical. Given the slashed budget available to the council, what exactly would you see cut then?

If the Labour party was merely a flag of convenience and a platform to get you elected, I might be more inclined to vote for you - but you make great play of the fact that you've been an 'active' Labour Party member. Given how utterly shite and ineffectual the local Labour party has been in opposition to the current cabal of pin-stripers, this doesn't exactly fill me with inspiration or faith either. Why on earth would you throw your hat in with a bunch of passionless people who seem to either exist in a confused daze of 20 year out of date political ideology, or who happily cross the floor to suit themselves?

Are you primarily interested in local politics or in being a local politician? There is a gulf of difference...

Then there's the bit about residents parking - and the 'new thinking from Labour'. Do you think it might have been a good idea to actually explain what is meant by 'a social enterprise solution'? I bet 99.9% of your electorate won't have a clue what you're talking about - which is ironic, when you go on the claim that Labour have consistently put forward this idea. What exactly is your mandate, when A. virtually nobody potentially effected by it knows anything about it - and B. you haven't even explained what it is on your own election leaflet?

I do know something about the proposal - and tbh, I for one am pretty appalled by the prospect of a quasi PFI being set up to administer parking. What's your case for convincing me otherwise?
 :coffee:
I do not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it - [attributed to] Voltaire... 'Entia non sunt multiplicanda praeter necessita' - William of Occam.... 'You have a right to feel offended, but just cos you are offended doesn't mean you are right'

Not if you've ever had any dealings with Snelgrove it isn't.

Any chance of Chris's leaflet being scanned and submitted for the TS Leaflet library Tobes?

Be nice to put what you're discussing into visible context :)
