It seems controversy is growing over the recreation ground in South Marston Village. It seems a villager believes the RG needs protecting from the excesses of South Marston Parish Council. Certain Councillors have been heard to favour selling off part of the field.

The villager has had an application to protect the RG accepted by SBC. This is done by giving it Village Green status, it is said the PC are livid, how dare a villager want a say in how a resource owned by, well villagers, is administered.

In a strangely undemocratic move another villager has asked for a survey to be posted asking villagers to decide. This will of course not go down well. We wait for the next salvo from both sides.

oh oh, I look forward ot the discussions and outcome of this one!

By the way, I don't think that Village Green Status is given by SBC, I think it goes further than that and there has to be some proof of usage and consultation, not sure on that though. i.e. I don't think that just one person applying would swing it.
Oi! Listen mush. Old eyes, remember? I’ve been around the block a few times. More than a few. They’ve knocked down the blocks I’ve been around and rebuilt them as bigger blocks. Super blocks. And I’ve been round them as well.  The Doctor (Night Terrors)

I have heard from the applicant that the PC voted not to object to the application, which I am told went down like a lead balloon for some Councillors. Not the result that was expected.
