Cold War Remnants
« on: May 31, 2006, 08:10:51 PM »
I came across this site whilst looking for something else entirely.... but it piqued my interest, and made me wonder how many other fissile material stores there are around the country.

Now the cold war is over I suppose we have a slim window of opportunity to find out about this stuff before 'Fortress Blair' opens for business and we find ourselves on the wrong side of the New Labour Iron Curtain.

I wonder how many of us realise how many underground installations there are around us...

I used to work for a large UK company in supporting their government projects and bids, particularly those for the MOD.  I can't give any details as to what I saw, but I can tell you that it was a real eye opener in terms of understanding the scale of activities and the mindsets of a government living through a period of paranoia.

I imagine it was the same during the cold war   ;D

There's a neat BBC site all about Burlington (underneath Corsham), complete with a drive around some of the six mikes of roads. Parking doesn't seem to be a problem - and I think it's for sale.
