Mathematics at work in Swindon

RWE NPower 1

Thursday 19th March

5.30pm for 6pm

"Mathematics is applied in a huge variety of ways in Swindon – for example engineering, logistics, manufacturing, finance, the environment, and is of course an important part of school and college curricula. We would like to encourage professional activity in mathematics and the quantitative sciences, and in particular to:

* Promote awareness of mathematics and its applications in and around Swindon,
* Encourage networking,
* Provide an informal support group for young professionals,
* Encourage links between schools and industry.

You are warmly invited to an informal meeting at RWE npower1 on Thursday 19 March, 5.30 for 6pm, finishing at 7pm. Light refreshments will be provided. During the meeting there will be some short presentations by Swindon people on mathematical topics. There will also be time for informal discussion, including future aims and activities. PLEASE:

1 Windmill Hill Business Park, Whitehill Way, Swindon, SN5 6PB

* Pass this invitation on to your colleagues
* Come on 19 March
* Consider giving a short presentation (~10 minutes) on a topic of interest to you
* Give us feedback and suggestions

We are taking this initiative under the auspices of the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications. However there is no requirement on you to join the IMA, and we welcome cooperation with other professional bodies. If possible, to speed up security checks, please inform Neil in advance of your name(s) and car registration. On arrival, report to security at the main entrance.

What sort of talks are you looking for?

In a world bereft of hope, lost to immeasurable inhumanity,   entrenched in commercial exploitation, devoid of hope, where's my underpants?
