and they're off....
« on: May 01, 2008, 07:40:53 AM »
polling stations are now open, so go on do your civic duty & vote (unless you live in blunsdon or penhill, then you can stay where you are & look forward to the next election you can vote in, which is likely to be the european elections next year)

OK - why are you still here & reading this, have you not got a polling station to go to

(before you ask, i have voted)

And now it's all over bar the counting.

With it being a couple of years since I last voted at a polling station there were a couple of things that struck me as I cast my vote this morning: the first polling station official didn't ask me to confirm my name and address when I handed over my poll card (they always have in the past); another didn't bother to stamp the ballot paper with an official mark, just tore it from a pad and handed it over (perhaps they were pre-marked); yet another official sat reading a newspaper and didn't bother to look up to see what it was that I was putting into the ballot box.

You could be forgiven for thinking that democracy isn't regarded as important.... :(
