Gordon is a Moron by Jilted John - YouTube video

"I've been going out with a girl
Her name is Julie
But last night she said to me
when we were watching telly
(this is what she said)
She said listen John I love you
But there's this bloke I fancy
I dont want to two time you
So its the end for you and me
Who's this bloke I asked her
goooooordon she replied
Not THAT poof I said in dismay
yes but he's no poof she cried - he's more a man than you'll ever be

Here we go, two three four

I was so upset that I cried all the way to the chip shop
When I came out there was Gordon standing at the bus stop
And guess who was with him
Yeah Julie- and they were both laughing at me
oh, she is cruel and heartless
to pack me for Gordan
Just cos he's better looking than me
just cos he's cool and trendy

but I know hes a moron, Gordon is a moron
Gordon is a moron, gordon is a moron"

And finally, a little bit here about Jilted John themselves.

I love this record.
On my ipod.
Brilliantly childish.

I wonder if it will be illegal soon:
Quote
Not THAT poof I said in dismay

and later in the single...
"I should smash his face in. Yeah. But he's bigger than me"

Will this be covered in the next session of parliament under "inciting hatred against gay, lesbian and transgender people"?

James

I only posted this because I found it to be an amusing way of referring to Gordon Brown, which of course it is! I'm not sure that I agree with or like some of the other statements that you mention, and those are not sentiments which I agree with, by the way. Still worth singing whenever Gordon Brown says or does something silly, though.

Got this on vinyl.

What's an iPod?

Every time gordnon says or does something silly, keen singer then?
Sometimes I think you have to march right in and demand your rights, even if you don’t know what your rights are, or who the person is you’re talking to. Then, on the way out, slam the door.

I don't condone violence, or homophobia.
But that doesn't stop it being a great song - a 3 minute teenage whinge.

I don't have it on vinyl, sadly.

Eh???

Explain
I do not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it - [attributed to] Voltaire... 'Entia non sunt multiplicanda praeter necessita' - William of Occam.... 'You have a right to feel offended, but just cos you are offended doesn't mean you are right'

I think it is a statement of the times.

People love to take the p1ss, but acceptable material dwindles as we become more inclusive, diverse and respectful of other peoples' race, creed and petty foibles.

By today's standards there are several boroughs of London who could string you up by the nuts for producing lyrics like this.

Still funny though, and, I could of course have misinterpreted a subtle nuance.

I fancy one of those USB turntables to shift my late 70's early 80's vinyl onto CD, no particular classics, but I do miss some of them. Anyone got any experience of the things?

I was referring to some of the lyrics that were less than pleasant, like the idea of smashing someone's face in - I'm not comfortable with the idea of any song making suggestions like that, even if it is just a song I would not like to condone that kind of idea in any way.

Aha!  Got you.

Course the Jilted John character as portrayed was probably 7 stone soaking wet and wore a parka, not your stylish fishtail either.

I think we were supposed to enjoy the irony of the emptiness of the threat, or perhaps feel the pain of the impotent man railing against the injustices that society foists upon him.

I would not condone smacking anyone in the chops. Unless he, or she, had just nicked my bird of course.

Unless he, or she, was a Ninja. In which case I would rail impotently etc.

What a bizarre outlook on life - and on what any reasonable person would define as 'condone'.

A similar sentiment applied to literature would render your library rather bland, would it not?

Scratch one copy of the Bible (far too many plucking out of eyes and vendettas - the God character indulges in a lot of violence too), War and Peace, The Lord of The Rings, oh, and as for the violence meeted out by  Asterix and Obelix the gauls - certainly no laughing matter ...

Personally, I think a sense of perspective and irony come as handy filters...

Haynes Manual for the Morris Minor is a bit iffy as well.
