Honest life.....
« on: November 26, 2016, 10:13:58 AM »
I hope all those readers who view this page today, have also read today's Adver, and the story on Page 1.  It seems one of our illustrious councillors, has run up a council tax debt of around £900, and had to be made to pay the amount, by way of a court appearance.  These are the people, who after agreeing to pay the council work staff a rise of 1% this year, then sat down and took a 17.5% pay rise themselves. With that in mind, they cant even afford to pay their way it seems and the council is doing its best to protect this criminal.  If the council had any decency, it would sack this person and hold a bye  election and give someone else the chance to do the job. But as we know, this council, harbours such creeps, people like Cllr Martin with his sick remarks about children, or false and sill remarks by Cllr Foley on when she was going to or not, to resign in principle of council cuts, it seems the pay outweighs personal choice on the matter..  I hope they have the same stance, when people refuse to pay the precept charges in May.. :WTF:

We now have the situation, where the thamesdown buses are not running, due to traffic congestion, the bruce st bridges roundabout was almost closed tonight to another road failure, how much longer is this town going to accept this drivel from the councillors. the buses cant run down rodbourne road as they don't have priority to traffic, so are being held up for 10 minutes at a time and so in the long run don't run. is it time for a march or just plain riots to let this lot know things are not great, imagine if you owned the outlet village, and the loss of trade due to these road failures all the time.. big time sue on the cards eh..

Interesting that you mention traffic chaos, and it just happens to be Dale who's the one that hasn't paid his council tax!
Yes even getting home by bicycle wasn't easy last night, as it meant cycling down the middle of Rodbourne Road.
Once the new relief road is built, the buses won't be able to be run at all as they will be unable to get out of Barnfield Road, the Western Flyer will have one more crossing which will probably be the worst of all, and the traffic won't be going anywhere.

I have been busy with other things for over a year but what deep joy it was to see Reindeer Man on BBC TV West news so close to Christmas.
What's it all about?

I see from the bottom of the TS page Dale has a birthday coming up, so don't be too unkind to the poor little lamb.

Maybe with all that nasty tax money he's saved he'll have enough for a round of drinks in the TS Bar. (trebles all round  :smitten:)

Went to have a look at how reindeer man was being slagged off by the good people of Swindon on the Adver website.

I see on Facebook he has denied responsibility for the Bruce Street Bridges fiasco, and I'm wondering if as the same contractor is doing Greenbridge will that be a "complete success" too?

People have reported that the same firm is doing greenbridge as bruce st bridges, I went past, at slow speed, the other day aND THE NEWLY LAID TARMAC BY THE JAG GARAGE, WAS BEING RIPPED UP AND THEN RELAID!!!.
ASK FOR A SAFETY CERTIFICATE FOR Bruce st bridges and you wont get one.
ask why rodbourne road is a no go area, as Kemble drive has priority, you cant make it up.
There is an excellent article in the adver today by Gill Harris on page 4, and cant wait now for him to implement stage 3!!
Must go now and read up on past posts on here about the oasis !!, see they have now missed two deadlines for the new infrastructure, but good old council will let them just roll on !!
sorry forgot, who is the councillor responsible for transport.. bus lanes comes to mind... :2funny:

Just had a quick flick through The Adver topic that Gorgon mentioned

http://www.swindonadvertiser.co.uk/news/14934507.Cabinet_member_resigns_over_council_tax_court_case/

The comments were all removed at some point then reopened.

Looks like they are all closed again

Is somebody at SBC doing a censor job on the adver?

I see Julian is now calling himself "Jason and Terry" . Maybe getting barred from TS has finally pushed him over the edge.  :D

Great to see a few people returning to TS now, especially as SBC seem to be increasing their incompetence level to a new extreme.

I haven't seen this much activity here for a long time.

I just saw that post on the Adver from 'Jason and Terry' (and promptly came here) I wonder if Chris Humphreys (who seems to be star reporter at the Adver at the moment) will do a little investigation in Swindon's very own Troll.  As he's an ex-armed forces man I imagine he won't be as easily intimidated by Swindon's 3rd rate politicians, wannabe politicians and brown nosers as the less experienced journalists.

I should have posted the other link here. Just incase anybody is curious

http://www.swindonadvertiser.co.uk/news/14939947.Residents_zone_out_at_parking_changes/

It certainly is nice to see the site back in action. That will upset the troll more than anything.

368 people have been online to TS today. The highest ever was 591 so it's looking good.

It is, of course, only a matter of time before those that play with fire get burned.

In the past, I've had problems logging in due to the Tapatalk app, but an old link in my browser seems to get round it.

Let's hope some more TalkSwindon users old and new start to make an appearance.

Swindon needs TS now

Good Comment in The Adver

Nice little comment in the adver

http://www.swindonadvertiser.co.uk/news/14940464.Don_t_fight_it___just_own_up_to_the_truth/

Quote
NOW I know what people say because they nearly always say it when I tell them I’m a journalist.

“You can’t trust what you read in the papers. They make half of it up, you know.”

Well, I can’t speak for the nationals, some of which have not exactly covered themselves in glory in recent years, what with the phone hacking scandal and the Hillsborough inquiry.

But local papers tend to be pretty straight-up honest.

For instance, we’re trained to write shorthand so we can take accurate notes of interviews, court proceedings and the like so if anyone ever queries the veracity of something, we’ve got the proof right there in black and white.

Journalists don’t get very far if they’re liars — because no one can trust them, from the readers right through to the editor.

Finding out the truth and telling it via the pages of the paper is our stock-in-trade. If we made all our stories up, no one would bother reading the Adver.

Similarly, if you were, say, a hairdresser who occasionally did a great job but now and then gave unsuspecting old ladies a mohican or sent people away with a completely lopsided do then you’d probably find your salon empty pretty soon.

Likewise, if you were a milkman who sometimes randomly dropped off bottles of lemonade on people’s doorsteps of a morning instead of the milk they were expecting, you might not be surprised to find your customer base shrinking rapidly.

So here’s the question: what is it politicians don’t get about this?

Councillor Dale Heenan, who this week resigned from Swindon Borough Council over his non-payment of council tax and subsequent court case, isn’t the first to get the wrong end of the stick when it comes to ethics.

First of all he didn’t pay his council tax, generally considered to be a no-no. Secondly the case went as far as to end up in court. Also not good.

Thirdly, he didn’t have the courage or the grace to explain straight away to the people who voted for him that he was in such a situation and why. There may be a good reason for his non-payment (although I can’t think of one) but the public aren’t mind readers.

Fourthly, he reckoned it was a private issue. Such court proceedings are public and both the press and the public are allowed to attend and report on the matter.

Fifthly, he seems to be passing the blame for his downfall on people ‘playing politics’. Erm. Sorry but they weren’t the ones who didn’t pay their council tax and then tried to keep shtum about it.

Anyway, I thought it might be helpful to put together a few top tips for any politicians who may find themselves in hot water.

1. If you’re a politican, at local or national level, don’t break the law. This includes paying your taxes, not driving in the bus lane, shoplifting... you know, the law.

2. If you do break the law, resign immediately and take up charity work or undertake other good deeds by way of amends.

3. If you get caught breaking the law and haven’t yet resigned, thereby breaking rule 2, admit the truth immediately. Under no circumstances attempt to fudge the issue or hide the truth. Then implement rule 3.

4. If you have skipped rules 2 and 3 and remain in position despite having broken the law, you have clearly been doing a fair bit of fudging the truth, and the public, as soon as it finds out, will lose all respect for you. Your political career is over, for the short term at least. At this point, grovelling is your only option. Apologise profusely and don’t try to place the blame elsewhere or come up with silly excuses. Then implement rule 2.

As you can see, once a politician breaks the law or commits some other misdemeanour the only course of action is to own up, resign and apologise. Got it? Good.

Ive just received a reply from the council leader, who says that as Mr Heenan resigned from the cabinet, the matter is now closed... so they do look after each other then.. go back to Mr Martin and Ms Foely.. good after bad  and so it goes on..  Mr Heenan emailed me that he doesn't read adver articles...... I expect hes busy trying to figure out another excuse for the bruce st bridges fiasco..
I challenged my allotment bill, as its gone up to £30.60 for a half plot, I told the officer in charge that the cabinet papers of the 19th oct, show that 16\17 it is £2650 and then the new charge for 17\18, so I asked why this new increase. I was told that I was muddled, as the growing season starts in april so that's 17, so I must pay the new charge.. I may be muddled, but that is the biggest farce yet with charges..
the oasis fiasco is now rearing its head again, two failed deadlines and yet the council plods on.. just how incompetent can they get... :WTF:

I think calling them incompetent is too kind.

I'm pleased that their stooge is upset that these issues can be aired on TalkSwindon though

So much so that he has to pretend to be two people from a website that virtually nobody except him has been barred from.

Yes incompetence is definitely too kind 😜

At the council cabinet meeting last night, several councillors spoke up for Coun Heenan, and said what a grand job he did for the council, they never explained why he hasnt resigned as a councillor, or why the traffic from the moonrakers roundabout last night, once again, was stacked up back past the Jensons roundabout, and I presume likewise in the other directions of the roundabout, What did he do about that, answer Zilch. If you look at the cabinet  papers from last night there is a table, showing the current ongoing and even those that have now finished schemes around the town.  Not a mention of the traffic hold ups on cricklade road at all,  Remember the flower post and the costs,
Utter Disgrace..
