Abbey Meads Footpaths
« on: September 28, 2016, 09:14:21 PM »
Does anyone know who is filling cracks in Abbey Meads footpaths with sand/gravel? Is it SBC or Haydon Wick Parish Council.

It looks like a bodge job and a waste of money. The usual way to fill cracks is with hot bitumen. Filling with sand might prevent a bicycle wheel or heel from getting trapped, but it won't prevent water from getting into the substrate and causing damage. The excess loose sand/gravel on the footpath could cause a cyclist to come off and put in a claim for compensation.

If SBC are doing this - they should know better. If it is the parish - can we expect more cheap bodge jobs in the future?

If you remember one of our valued contributors was mugs, who lives in Penhill, she has come back and said they are putting in bitumen and putting the sand over the top of it to protect the new 'jion'..

How is Muggins?
I wanted to ask the question a while back when we were talking about the regulars.
I was fearing the worse and now I'm happy to know that she is still with us

There is no bitumen in the cracks near me, just sand. It has spread over the path, looks a mess and serves no useful purpose. It's just a waste of money.

I'm not sure how loose sand would protect bitumen which is very durable. Bitumen is smooth and can be slippery when wet, so they sometimes put aggregate IN (not over) the top layer for slip resistance, but this is loose sand which is a hazard in itself.

Some one at the parish doesn't know what they are doing.
