For those guests looking in, this is now a very good reference point, but as you can see, the users don't want to use!! :surrender:

Yes it is totally dead here despite the chaos at SBC, they must be over the moon that they're pretty much getting away with it.

it is also sad that the mps wont step in to sort out the mess of the precept fiasco, but  there you have it, until election day and they are gone.....

Any theories as to why people don't comment here anymore?

There's certainly no contest with the state of The Adver's comment section.
Idiots on there couldn't even talk about something as simple as a favourite ice cream flavour without diverting the topic to a demented anti Corbyn rant

Back in the day I'd probably visit here several times a day, then it got to once a day and now it's more like just a couple of times a week or maybe not even once a week.  I suspect I'm not only person and this is a vicious cycle where fewer discussion mean fewer visits which means fewer discussions and eventually people stop visiting.

I suspect a lot of the visitors come here via google looking for information about what is going on with stuff like parishing or library service cuts etc.

I used to look at postings regularly too, but I've moved to Norfolk and feel out of it now. I suspect that Facebook and Twitter have got in the way. I'm not on Twitter and find Facebook irritating. Talkswindon was always a good place to follow through on news and conversation about a topic. I'm very grateful to all for the information provided and for the encouragement I was given related to the Save Coate campaign. I wish that we had won.

That was an incredible campaign Jean and the protestors deserved to win.
We know the underlying reason that gave the developers their way.

I have also left Swindon now.

You deserve a medal for your efforts and all of the aggravation you had to put up with from certain trolls.

One small consolation is that I learnt a few things during the Save Coate campaign and have used my experience to thwart other poorly planned developments

Regards
Jason

Thanks Terry and Jason. I'm still the secretary for the Richard Jefferies Society, so I can still do quite a bit at a distance.  I've volunteered at a local nature reserve too. The pace of life is certainly slower in Norfolk - we really love it here. I miss not being a thorn in the side for Swindon Council or the developers!

I was aware that you had moved Jason - are you still in Wiltshire?

Sorry for the delay in replying Jean.
I've been visiting a relative in palliative care.
She's finally at peace with the world now.

I'll have to email details of where we moved to as I still have a stalker who now calls himself Arbiter Elegatiarum (amongst other logins and cloned logins) who is usually notable by his main interest of following someone called Badger around The Adver columns and Twitter

Needless to say, we are much happier since we moved out of Swindon.
As Terry says (a quick flick through The Adver' confirms) Swindon is still the same.

Yeah, maybe I'll comment in the Adver threads then invite people to TS for a sensible debate without all the name calling.
Probably get an instant ban for that 👀

My guess is that people don't comment here because other people don't comment here. I recall Geoff saying a long time ago that TalkSwindon managed to maintain a discussion despite having far fewer active members than are typically needed for a forum to be a success. So it was reliant on a very few members commenting a lot. It would only need for one or two of those very active members to no longer be active and the forum would settle into the rather moribund state it is in now.

I reckon, if you say his name 3 times in succession he'll appear.
Not sure we need to see pictures of clouds though 😎

A UFO was spotted over Westcott Place. I think Rob may have been abducted. He knows too much.

I for one welcome our new alien overlords (they can't do any worse a job than SBC).

At least the UFO story was some light relief after the news of the past couple of weeks/months.
